LYNDA BARNES

Lead instructor & founder

Hi, I am Lynda, the lead instructor and founder of The Movement Room.

My love for pilates began in South Africa in 2005 when I walked into a pilates studio for the very first time. One class was all it took, I was in love. After a handful of sessions I started to feel stronger, more energised and more agile than I ever had.. After a few months, I realised that this was it, this is what I wanted to spend my days doing, not only for me, but for others, I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to feel as good as I did.

Once I moved to Australia in 2009, I made the decision to move away from the corporate world and train as a Pilates instructor. I completed my certificate of Anatomy, Physiology and Body Structure and the Diploma of Pilates Studio Method with Polestar Australia in Sydney in 2011. Polestar are one of the global leaders in Pilates instructor education with access to elite training, inspirational mentors and expert educators. To this day, I remain fully committed to improving my knowledge and experience of the human body and how we move and at this point in time and currently completing my Level 1 Franklin Method Professional training.

My primary training and background is in rehabilitation from injury and strength training and have worked with a wide range of clients recovering from hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery, scoliosis and back surgery etc. Having recently begun competing again I have become increasingly focused on working with athletes and trainers to increase performance and movement capabilities to prevent long term injury. I am also very passionate about maximising the strength and performance of masters athletes, focusing on improving movement techniques for running, swimming, cycling, golf, surfing, dancing and karate.
